I remember listening to a very interesting podcast regarding hearing aids here:

https://theamphour.com/338-an-interview-with-jorgen-jakobsen/

I have been very interested in this being a medical device especially when I was working on some bluetooth and low power applications.

Could you please provide some part numbers on the cutting edge of hearing aids?

Thanks I’ll check that out.

I’ve linked the product pages of latest hearing aids in the post. Didn’t dig deeper than that.

Thank you for writing this Vik. My late Mum became profoundly deaf in her 20s and I can attest to how difficult deafness can make life: no-one can see that you're deaf but everyone can tell that you're not following a conversation properly. Deafness can be really socially isolating as well as leading to other health issues.

If we can use modern technology to alleviate this then that will be a truly significant win for society.

Sorry to hear- yeah it is difficult for the person with subpar hearing and also for those who surround them.

I was amazed at how poor the tech experience is in hearing aids and how much they cost when my wife started wearing them a few years ago.

Lots of innovation needed still. And a lowering of price point.

Thanks and really sorry to hear that your wife needs help with her hearing.

I'm really optimistic that we'll see tremendous advances in the next few years. I know Paul Lefebvre has wriiten about his experiences with the latest Airpods.

On a slightly lighter note Mum's deafness had a (trivial) effect on me. I've been told that I shout down phones even today as I got used to doing so starting in childhood. I'm not popular in my local Starbucks.

Really hoping for good tech advances and low cost. My wife just recently got AirPod Pro 2s and it’s just like Lefebvre says— serves as a good secondary option to hearing aids. Not a substitute for even moderate hearing loss.

Yes saying they have hearing aid capabilities is slightly overselling them I think. Still hopefully Apple will continue to improve them and they will become a useful complement to real hearing aids.
