You are missing an entire discussion about III-V materials on Si directly as done by Aeluma. They also produce quantum dot InGaAs lasers on Si via direct epitaxy. I am surprised the Professor did not mention it since he was at UCSB along with Aeluma CEO Jonathan Klamkin

Yeah, good point. We missed it entirely, but we probably also missed a whole lot of other things :)
